Nominations for Election to the Board of Directors

Category A: Individual Members

How the Election Works

CCAPP’s election of members to the board of directors begins September 5, 2024, with an open nomination process. The election voting period will begin on November 18, 2024, and will end on December 1, 2024.

California has been divided into nine districts with approximately equal populations. Each district is up for election every three years. This year, an election will be held for board members in Districts 1, 2, and 5.

Nomination Process

There are three (3) ways in which a person may be nominated. Each district must nominate at least one candidate.

    1. Any CCAPP member living within the district may nominate a candidate to represent that district;
    2. A CCAPP member living within the district may nominate themselves;
    3. The current board’s election committee will nominate at least one additional candidate who lives in each of these three districts in the event that only one candidate has been nominated from within the district.

The only requirement for making a nomination is that the person making the nomination and the person being nominated must both be members of CCAPP in good standing. As per CCAPP bylaws, certified individuals who are not members cannot run for office.

All nominations must be received in the CCAPP office no later than the close of business on September 16, 2024. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Members residing in Districts 1, 2, or 5 are invited to participate in the nominating process this cycle. Members who do not reside in one of these districts cannot participate in the nomination process; however, all individual members will be able to vote for one candidate from each of these three districts pursuant to CCAPP’s bylaws.

The member district map shows the broad outlines of the current CCAPP Districts. If you would like more detailed information about which district you live in, or have any questions about the election process, email

My name is John Herrera, and it’s an honor to be nominated for CCAPP’s Board of Directors.
I believe deeply in the power of change and the ability to make an impact in addiction treatment. My journey through a decade of work in addiction treatment and my commitment to serving teens, young adults, and underserved populations has inspired me to run for this position.

At Nate’s Place, a nonprofit wellness and recovery center, I serve as an addiction counselor, providing free treatment to underserved teens and young adults. As a peer-led facility, we focus on peer support and connecting youth to healthy recreational activities, fostering resilience and promoting positive mental health outcomes while empowering teens and young adults on their recovery journey, I also lead a substance use prevention program that operates in three different school districts, focusing on addiction prevention and early intervention. The program provides free services to middle and high schools, supporting students in making informed decisions surrounding substance use. In addition, starting early next year, we will partner with a community-based organization to bring free evidence-based treatment to incarcerated adolescents, offering them critical opportunities for change and rehabilitation.

As a family man and father of two boys, I am driven to create a future where recovery is accessible, and communities are empowered to support those struggling with addiction. With my background in business administration and ongoing studies for a Master’s in Social Work, I approach this work from both clinical and strateglc perspectives.
